Haraner Natjamai is a famous story of Manik Bandyopadhyay, written against the background of "Te bhaga" movement of Bengal. The slogan of the movement was "land to the tiller".The movemment was against the corrupted landlords, rich wholesale dealers and middlemen. In the film, Abinash of Shaliganj village, the son of old Haran encourages the poor farmers by singing revolutionary songs and make them aware of their basic rights.On day of his daughter Moina's marriage with the son of a rich wholesale dealer, he was murdered by a police inspector.However the rich dealer postpones the marriage because he was not given a particutar amount of silver as dowry. Abinash's widow, Behula (Sumitra Mukherjee) avanged the murder of her husband by killing the inspector. The suspect is Bhuban Mondal (Sunil Mukherjee) who spearheads the agricultural movement. Behula gives him shelter and hoodwinks the police by saying that the man is her son-in-law.The real son-in-law comes to know about the facts and gets angry. However when the misunderstanding is over, the police come, arrest and kill the mother, daughter and son-in-law. The villagers protest.The film ends with the declaration that Kakdwip and Sagar areas of Bengal are declared disturbed areas.
